
Jay Leek
Managing Partner
Jay Leek is a Managing Partner and Co-founder of SYN Ventures and ClearSky Security. Mr. Leek was formerly the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to The Blackstone Group L.P. (NYSE: BX) (“Blackstone”) — where he also shared responsibility for identifying, structuring, evaluating, executing, and overseeing Blackstone Innovations’ portfolio of information security investments.
Prior to joining Blackstone in 2012, Mr. Leek established, built and headed up global information risk and security programs for Equifax and Nokia. Throughout the past 23+ years, Mr. Leek has also worked as a product manager for information security vendors as well as a consultant to numerous telecom companies, government agencies, and financial institutions, assisting them with business development, strategic planning and architectural design required to meet their information risk and security objectives.
Mr. Leek holds a B.S. from Capella University in information assurance and security, and is a Certified Information Security Manager, Certified Information Systems Security Professional and Certified Information Systems Auditor.
Mr. Leek currently serves as the Board Chairman for Halcyon and is on the boards of directors for Adlumin, AppOmni, BigID, CyberGRX, Blue Lava, HUMAN, Sevco, Phosphorus, Revelstoke, ShiftLeft, SecZetta and Talon. He was also formerly a member of the board of directors of Capsule8 (acquired by Sophos), Carbon Black (acquired by VMWare), CloudKnox (acquired by Microsoft), Cylance (acquired by BlackBerry), Demisto (acquired by Palo Alto Networks), IntSights (acquired by Rapid7), Mandiant (acquired by Google Cloud), Optiv (acquired by KKR), Phantom (acquired by Splunk), ProtectWise (acquired by Verizon), RedOwl (acquired by ForcePoint), Respond (acquired by FireEye), Verodin (acquired by FireEye), NY Metro ISSA Chapter, and a member of the advisory boards of Accuvant and iSIGHT Partners (acquired by FireEye).
