John Watters brings 35 years of investment and security experience. Most recently, Mr. Watters was an Executive Vice President at FireEye from 2016 through 2020. During his tenure there, he oversaw a unified global organization combining Mandiant, iSIGHT Intelligence, Managed Defense, Global Support, Corporate Strategy and Development, and the Verodin security validation business unit following their acquisition. Mr. Watters joined FireEye in January 2016 upon its acquisition of iSIGHT Partners, the company he founded in 2006. Under Mr. Watter’s leadership, iSIGHT Partners built a global network of intelligence experts that today extends the reach of FireEye’s threat intelligence capability. Prior to iSIGHT Partners, Mr. Watters was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of iDEFENSE, a security intelligence firm he acquired in 2002 and sold to VeriSign in 2005.
Prior to entering the security industry through the iDEFENSE acquisition, Mr. Watters was the Chairman and CEO of Dorset Capital, a private investment firm that spun off from EFO Holdings, the family office of Bill Esping (the founder of First Data Resources), following the passing of Bill Esping. He served as the General Partner and Chief Investment Officer of both Dorset Capital’s hedge fund and venture capital fund.
As the Founder, Chairman and CEO of EFO Holdings, Mr. Watters served as the General Partner and Chief Investment Officer for all investment activities of the family including managing their hedge fund, venture capital fund, and real estate fund. During this time, he served on 18 Boards of Directors of the various core holdings of EFO Holdings. Prior to founding EFO Holdings, Mr. Watters worked in the investment industry in New York City, most recently running an integrated wealth management and middle market M&A team at Bankers Trust.
Mr. Watters has previously invested in many innovative cyber security companies, such as TippingPoint Technologies, Archer Technologies, Netwitness, WhiteOps, ThreatGrid, Armeron ThreatConnect and Lookingglass. He served on more than 20 corporate and nonprofit boards, including chairing the Investment Committee of the Jesuit Foundation (Dallas), and is the Founder and Chairman of the STAIRS Program, which supports inner-city education. Mr. Watters graduated from Santa Clara University and attended the London School of Economics.Back to Leadership
